Urban Development

River water flows downstream

To the beavers building stoppage

Hoping to catch a meal or two

Sherwood Forest, surely could but

There’s not even a river there

Like the Nile or the Ganges or

Miss i ssippi, don’t you?

this throat has sipped plenty warm

Let the shame soak in the tissues

Tick the joints, incomplete.

But walking through doors

Under the mistletoe complete

Dreams are cool and all,

But there’s no way to skip the ad

What is wanted from the sun,

When winter is coming still

Skin yearns for the goosebumps

For the hair to hold up straight

Hippopotamus' eating the alleyways

In an urban center by the mall

It’s closing soon all the time

The owner is still to be missing

They’ve been looking for him

In the sky

Tell Aunt Sally about anything you see worth buying.

Please Excuse, My Dear Aunt Sally.

comfort

is the invitation,

the fire in its place,

of continuity,

after a cold trudge home,

and the wet boots lay rest by the door.

until, the fire is lit again,

logs char and marrow in time

kneel before the pit and you relight

you relight

you relight

your real light, until it

becomes a passive burning

of passion. Comfort,

is a consuming gift.

Not a main tenance
